Gleaner Life Insurance Society will hold its 32nd annual Flag Day celebration Thursday, June 14, beginning at 11 a.m. at Gleaner’s Home Office, 5200 W. U.S. Highway 223 in Adrian.
This free and open-to-the-public event will celebrate the American flag and our country’s devotion to patriotism, honoring veterans and military personnel in service today. In addition to the ceremonial raising of the flag, veterans dressed in full uniform will salute the flag as community members recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Following the program, guests will be treated to a complimentary lunch on the Gleaner grounds. New to our Flag Day celebration in 2018 is a volunteer opportunity to pack 100 home care kits and 100 personal care packs to be given to veterans at Housing Help of Lenawee. Care kits will contain items like dish soap, Lysol wipes, dustpans, sponges and more. Personal care items will include deodorant, toothbrushes and paste, shampoo, soap and much more. This activity will begin immediately after lunch. If you are interested in helping, please RSVP.
Gleaner is also teaming with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive, which will be held during the Flag Day event, from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donors are asked to pre-register by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code GLEANER or by calling 800.RED.CROSS.
